Jo-ann Caballes

Jo-ann Caballes is a highly qualified math tutor currently working at the educational platform Brighterly. She has over 6 years of experience in teaching and has been successfully applying engaging interactive math teaching methods for children from 1 to 7 grade.

Education and professional skills

Jo-ann Caballes’ educational journey began in the city of Panabo. Here, from 2009 to 2012, she attended Gredu Elementary School and Panabo National High School.

After graduating from high school, Jo-ann studied for about 7 years at the University of Mindanao and was an active member of student organizations. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree in BEd, Secondary Education and Teaching.

Jo-ann is certified in TESOL & TEYL programs, which emphasizes her ability to teach internationally.

Note: The TESOL program is created to prepare first-class professionals to teach English to those people whose native language is not English. The program of study covers a wide range of educational strategies. The TEYL program focuses on preparing specialists to teach English to preschool and primary school children.

By obtaining this knowledge, Jo-ann managed not only to master the language perfectly but also to gain additional expertise in distinct teaching techniques and methods. Most of them are effective for working with younger children and stimulating their interest and motivation to learn academic subjects.

Jo-ann perfectly implemented the best practices into her own math teaching methodology, thus further enhancing her proficiency.

Jo-ann’s experience before Brighterly

While still in university, Jo-ann began her career as an elementary tutor at J-Care Tutorial Center, where she worked from 2017 to 2019. During this time she realized she had a passion for teaching children and was committed to providing her students with the best learning experience.

“There are lots of things I like about teaching. Really a lot!”

Some of these are the thoughts that I am imparting my knowledge to them, spending time with them, playing games, and at the same time learning. What I really love isn’t only learning together through context but also that the kids can apply this knowledge in real-life situations.

Following her experience at the J-Care Tutorial Center, Jo-ann spent several years as an Administrative Staff at Davao Galva Purlins, Inc. There, she had the opportunity to improve core organizational and communication skills.

Before Brighterly, Jo-ann worked for two years as an ESL Teacher at the global online education platform 51 Talk English International Limited. On this platform, she taught her students online lessons in an interactive format and noticed how effective such classes can be.

Current activities and approach to students

Since 2022, Jo-ann has been working as a math tutor at Brighterly and has written expert articles on the Brighterly blog and useful free math worksheets (educational math resources) for children and their parents from preschool to 7th grade. Her educational approach is based on interactive teaching methods, which makes math interesting and understandable for students.
