Maila Caliao graduated from Southern Luzon State University in 2023. Her teaching journey began during her 2nd year of university, where she worked as a Computer programming instructor. Maila developed solid skills in teaching and explaining complex programming and mathematical concepts in an easy-to-follow and engaging manner.
She then obtained a Master’s Degree in Computer Programming and Mathematics from The National Engineering University in the Philippines, where she specialized in Computer Programming and Mathematics.
Note: Her degree focused on many aspects of computer science and other fields deeply rooted in mathematical thinking and logic.
Maila continued to expand her teaching skills during her Master’s, significantly improving her knowledge in teaching students with various needs through both online math class and in-person tutoring.
Maila’s experience before Brighterly
Before becoming a Brighterly math tutor, Maila worked as a computer instructor at the Southern Luzon State University of the Philippines.
During her years as a Computer Instructor, Maila developed strong teaching skills. She evaluated and guided students toward developing skills in computer software, hardware, and basic troubleshooting. To this day, this experience helps her explain complex mathematical concepts in more digestible terms.

As a Brighterly online math tutor, I make complex topics simpler for students to understand. My way of teaching is by giving relatable examples, the ones children can connect to in their day-to-day lives and achieve success in math.
In addition to being a Computer Instructor, Maila worked as an Abacus Coach for kids under 12 years old, enhancing students’ mathematical skills using neurofitness and mental arithmetics.
She joined the Brightelry platform in 2024, making her way to becoming a well-rounded math tutor with expertise in strong problem-solving and STEM skills.
Maila also possesses technical skills in curriculum development, structural analysis, robotics, and automation. Additionally, she collaborates with the educational team in creating and improving a Common Core-aligned curriculum and homework and conducts interviews with interested math tutors.
Maila is fluent in both English and Filipino and has completed professional training as a licensed professional Teacher for Elementary and Secondary Education.

I enjoy the process of teaching and learning. When I see that the students are learning something from me and I learn something from them, it gives me fulfillment and joy to pursue my passion for teaching. This is my personal style of going about my work.
Maila also creates and improves existing free math worksheets available on the Brighterly website. In addition, she is a hands-on author for the Brighterly blog, providing its users with useful and engaging educational material – perfect for parents and kids.
She focuses on student-centered, hands-on, and relatable learning to deliver the best possible experience for children with different needs.
